They do different jobs. Pinterest is a visual search engine: people search, save and plan, and a good pin keeps bringing visits to your site. Bluesky is a conversation feed, close to early Twitter: short text posts, replies and feeds you choose. Pick Pinterest if your work is visual and lives on a website or shop. Pick Bluesky if you write, share ideas or want to talk with your readers. Many creators use both: Pinterest for traffic, Bluesky for conversation.
- Pinterest had 661 million monthly active users in Q3 2026, an all-time high, up 10% in a year.[1]
- Bluesky grew from 25.94 million to 41.41 million users during 2025, counting accounts on its own servers and on independent ones.[2]
- A Bluesky post is up to 300 characters, with up to 4 photos or one video.[3][4]
- A Pinterest pin has a title of up to 100 characters (about 40 show in feeds) and a description of up to 800.[5]

What Pinterest is for
Pinterest says people use it to plan what’s next, from dinner recipes and birthday parties to home renovations.[6] They arrive with an intent and save what fits it. That makes it work like search: a pin can be found long after you post it, and each one can link straight to your blog post, shop or video.
- Good fit: anything people plan or buy by looking. Recipes, interiors, outfits, crafts, travel, products, tutorials.
- What a pin needs: a clear vertical image or video, a board, a title with the important words first, and a link.[5]
- Less of a fit: opinions, news, quick talk. There is little back-and-forth on a pin.
What Bluesky is for
Bluesky is built for conversation. Posts are short (300 characters),[3] and replies, quote posts and threads carry most of the reach. Instead of one algorithm, people pick custom feeds built by others, or make their own,[7] so a niche (science, books, a city, a hobby) can find you through its feed.
- Good fit: writing, ideas, research, behind-the-scenes, links to your newsletter or long video, talking with your audience.
- What a post needs: a strong first line, and a reply when people answer. A thread works when 300 characters isn’t enough.
- Less of a fit: purely visual work with nothing to say about it. A photo with no words does little there.
Which one for you: a quick decision
- Your work is visual and lives on a website, shop or blog you want visits to? Pinterest.
- You write, explain, report or want to talk with readers? Bluesky.
- You make videos? Pinterest takes video pins; Bluesky takes a video with a short post. Try both for a month and compare.
- Still unsure? Post to both for four weeks and see where the clicks, saves and replies come from.
Or use both, from one upload
The same photo or video can go to both, with different words: a searchable title and link for the pin, a short line that starts a conversation for Bluesky. In Octoque you upload once, write a tab for each, pick the board for the pin, and each goes out at its own golden hour: Pinterest starts at 8 pm and Bluesky at noon in your audience’s time zone, then your own results take over. See the Pinterest scheduler and the Bluesky scheduler.
Questions people ask
Is Bluesky bigger than Pinterest?
Which brings more visits to my website?
Usually Pinterest, because every pin can open your page and people come to it to plan and buy.[6] Bluesky sends visits when a post starts a conversation people want to follow up on.
Can I post the same thing to both?
Does Bluesky have an algorithm?
It has a default feed, and you can add custom feeds that others build, or build your own.[7]
When should I post on each?
Pinterest is planned in the evening, Bluesky around lunch. Octoque starts there and moves to your audience’s own best hour once your posts have results. See best time to post.

Kumar Gaurav builds Octoque. Creators should spend their time making things, not watching clocks. So you make the video, and Octoque finds the moment: one upload, every platform, each at its golden hour. These guides follow the same idea. Real channels, real numbers, nothing you don’t need.
