Best Later alternatives in 2026

Later dropped X in 2025, caps posts on its cheaper plans, needs a card for its trial and doesn’t refund. If any of that is why you’re looking, here are eight alternatives, with dated prices and one real drawback each.

By Kumar Gaurav, founder of OctoqueUpdated Facts checked

The short answer

If you need X back, Buffer, Octoque, Publer and SocialBee all post to it. If billing is the issue, SocialBee (30-day money-back, no-card trial), Buffer (7–30 day refunds) and Octoque (no-card trial, refund on any payment within 14 days) are the safest. If you love Later’s Instagram planning and link in bio, nothing here copies that exactly; Later may still be right for you.

Why people look for a Later alternative

These come up most in Later’s own documentation and in recent public reviews. Each links to where we saw it.

  1. Billing: the trial needs a card and converts to paid, and plans are non-refundable. Many recent one-star reviews are about charges after a trial or cancellation. (Later help: trials)
  2. X is gone: Later ended X support on 28 August 2025, and doesn’t support Bluesky or Google Business Profile. (Later help: ending X support)
  3. Caps and plan gates: Starter allows 30 posts per profile a month and one user; inbox and approvals need Growth. (Later pricing)
  4. Slow replies from support, in recent Trustpilot reviews (Later’s score there is 1.5 from 351 reviews). (Trustpilot reviews of Later)
“They charged me the full monthly amount after I cancelled my account.”
Trustpilot reviewer, August 2026, Trustpilot

Later also does things well, and it may still be the right tool for you: a visual planner with an Instagram grid preview and a strong Instagram focus; built-in Link in Bio pages with analytics.

The alternatives

Octoque (made by us)

Best for: Creators who post one short video to Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, X and more, each at that platform’s own hour.

Price
Free: reminders only, you post (3 accounts, 10 posts a month); Starter $15 a month for 3 accounts, posting for you; Creator $29 for 8. Pricing
Why pick it
  • Golden hour on every plan: each platform at its own time, in your audience’s time zone.
  • Accounts included in the plan, not billed one by one; approvals from Creator.
  • 14-day trial with no card that posts for you (3 accounts, 30 posts), and a full refund within 14 days of any payment, renewals included.
  • API and MCP server on every paid plan.
Watch out for
New, with no third-party reviews yet. Lighter listening than Brandwatch-class tools (Mentions, on Studio: no web, news or forums); boosts live posts but has no full ads manager; no X comments or DMs in the inbox, and no routing or assignment for teams. The Free plan doesn’t post for you, and there’s no native phone app.

Compared with Later: Octoque posts to X, has no monthly post caps on paid plans, needs no card to try and refunds any payment within 14 days. Later is cheaper for small teams and has Snapchat, phone apps and a more established visual planner. Both have Pinterest and a link in bio. Full breakdown: Octoque vs Later.

How to choose

  • You need X: Buffer, Octoque, Publer, SocialBee, SocialPilot or Metricool (Metricool charges $10 a month per X account).
  • You were burned by billing: pick a no-card trial and a published refund window. See the refunds column on our comparison table.
  • You need link in bio: Octoque, Metricool and Publer include link-in-bio pages, and Buffer has Start Page; or keep a separate link tool.
  • You post a lot: check post caps. Later Starter allows 30 posts per profile a month; Octoque, Buffer and Metricool paid plans don’t cap scheduling this way.
How we compared

We read each tool’s own pricing page, help centre and terms on 14 October 2026, and linked every price and drawback to its source. Reasons for leaving come from Later’s own documentation and recent public reviews, which skew negative by nature. We did not run a long hands-on test of each tool, so this compares published plans and documentation, not day-to-day reliability. We picked tools that solve the problems above, not every scheduler on the market. Corrections to hello@octoque.com.
