Best Hootsuite alternatives in 2026

Hootsuite is a full suite priced per user, from $99 a month billed yearly, with approvals only on its $399 plan. If you mostly need scheduling, or a suite at a small-team price, here are eight alternatives.

By Kumar Gaurav, founder of OctoqueUpdated Facts checked

The short answer

Decide first whether you need the suite. If you need inbox, listening and reporting, Sprout Social is the like-for-like choice (also per seat), and Metricool or Vista Social cover much of it for less. If you mostly schedule, Buffer, SocialPilot and Octoque cost a fraction: Octoque has approvals from $29 a month for 2 people (Creator), or $99 for 5 people and 25 accounts (Studio).

Why people look for a Hootsuite alternative

These come up most in Hootsuite’s own documentation and in recent public reviews. Each links to where we saw it.

  1. Price, especially for small businesses and freelancers, because every user is a seat. (Capterra reviews of Hootsuite)
  2. No free plan since 31 March 2023. (BetaKit, 2023)
  3. Billing and renewal complaints: annual plans renew automatically and cancelling doesn’t bring a refund. (Hootsuite terms)
  4. Reports of bugs and video upload problems in recent one- and two-star reviews. (Trustpilot reviews of Hootsuite)
“Pricey, but leaves customers stranded.”
Trustpilot reviewer, March 2026, Trustpilot

Hootsuite also does things well, and it may still be the right tool for you: a shared inbox with routing and saved replies on every plan; social listening, from Quick Search on Standard to Talkwalker-powered listening on Enterprise.

The alternatives

Octoque (made by us)

Best for: Creators who post one short video to Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, X and more, each at that platform’s own hour.

Price
Free: reminders only, you post (3 accounts, 10 posts a month); Starter $15 a month for 3 accounts, posting for you; Creator $29 for 8. Pricing
Why pick it
  • Golden hour on every plan: each platform at its own time, in your audience’s time zone.
  • Accounts included in the plan, not billed one by one; approvals from Creator.
  • 14-day trial with no card that posts for you (3 accounts, 30 posts), and a full refund within 14 days of any payment, renewals included.
  • API and MCP server on every paid plan.
Watch out for
New, with no third-party reviews yet. Lighter listening than Brandwatch-class tools (Mentions, on Studio: no web, news or forums); boosts live posts but has no full ads manager; no X comments or DMs in the inbox, and no routing or assignment for teams. The Free plan doesn’t post for you, and there’s no native phone app.

Compared with Hootsuite: Octoque is a scheduler, not a suite. It has a simpler inbox for comments, DMs and Google reviews, lighter listening (Mentions) and Boost for live posts, but no full ads manager or inbox routing, which Hootsuite does well. What it does: one video to every platform at its own hour, with roles and approvals, from $29 a month for 2 people or $99 for 5 (Hootsuite’s approvals start at $399 per user a month, billed yearly). See Octoque for teams.

How to choose

  • You use listening, or a team inbox with routing, every day: stay with a suite. Sprout Social, Vista Social or Metricool.
  • You mostly schedule and approve: a scheduler with roles will cost far less: Octoque, Buffer Team, SocialPilot or Planable.
  • You run ads from Hootsuite: Metricool can create Google and Meta campaigns; most schedulers here can’t.
  • You’re on an annual Hootsuite plan: Hootsuite doesn’t refund on cancelling, so plan the switch for your renewal date.
How we compared

We read each tool’s own pricing page, help centre and terms on 14 October 2026, and linked every price and drawback to its source. Reasons for leaving come from Hootsuite’s own documentation and recent public reviews, which skew negative by nature. We did not run a long hands-on test of each tool, so this compares published plans and documentation, not day-to-day reliability. We picked tools that solve the problems above, not every scheduler on the market. Corrections to hello@octoque.com.
