Boost a live post as an ad
Turn a post that’s already live into an ad on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, X or Pinterest. It keeps its likes and comments, and the platform charges your own ad account.
Updated
Before you start
- You’re on Creator or Studio, or in your free trial.
- You’re a manager, admin or owner in the workspace. Editors and contributors can’t boost.
- You have an ad account on the platform (Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, X or Pinterest) with a payment method in it.
- The post is live on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, X or Pinterest.
Steps
- Open the live post and tap Boost.
- The first time, connect your ad account for that platform. You only do this once; after that you pick it in the boost sheet.
- Pick the ad account, then set a budget per day, a total budget and the number of days.
- Choose who should see it: countries, an age range and, where the platform supports them, interests.
- Pick a goal: more people see it, more engagement, more video views or more website visits.
- Check the total, for example “You’ll spend up to $70 over 7 days, charged by Meta to your ad account.”, and confirm.
What you’ll see
The platform reviews the ad before it runs, as it does for every ad. Once it runs, the post's page shows spend, reach, clicks and cost per result. The Ads card in Insights adds up every boost. You can stop a boost any time from the post's page.
Who charges you
The platform does. Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, X or Pinterest charges your own ad account and payment method, the same as an ad you set up in their app. Octoque never holds or touches your ad money.
Safety limits
Octoque asks you to confirm before every spend. Each boost has hard caps: by default up to $500 a day and $5,000 in total. Only managers, admins and owners can boost, and every boost is written to the workspace's log.
What Boost doesn't do
Boost turns one live post into an ad with a simple audience. It isn't a full ads manager: for detailed targeting, several ads in one campaign or new ad creative, use the platform's own ads tool.
Troubleshooting
Your ad account needs a payment method in Meta.
Add a payment method to the ad account in Meta, then come back and boost again.
The platform turned the ad down
Every ad is reviewed by the platform before it runs. The post’s page shows it wasn’t approved and nothing more is spent; the platform’s ads manager says why. Boost a different post, or fix what it asks for.
I don’t see Boost on a post
The post must be live on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, X or Pinterest, you need the Creator or Studio plan (or the trial), and your role must be manager, admin or owner. See roles.
