Best time to post on Threads in 2026: three studies compared

Threads is the one Meta app where the data points to mornings. The largest study, Buffer’s 2.5 million posts, puts weekday 9–11 AM local time on top and evenings at the bottom. Only three studies with any data exist so far, and they disagree a lot, so read the limits before you plan around them.

By Kumar Gaurav, founder of OctoqueUpdated Facts checked

The short answer
  • Best window: weekday mornings, 9–11 AM in your audience’s local time (Buffer).[1]
  • Top slots: Thursday 9 AM, Wednesday 12 PM and Wednesday 9 AM (Buffer). Hootsuite’s single best slot is Tuesday 8 AM.[1][2]
  • Where two studies agree: Monday 9 AM, Wednesday 12 PM and Thursday 9 AM.
  • Weakest: Saturday, then Sunday, and 6–11 PM on every day (Buffer).[1]

Threads has no “active times” report of its own, so testing your own posts matters more here than anywhere.

What each study found

Every row is a separate published study, read and checked on the date in the byline. Times are the local time of the accounts in each study unless the time-zone column says otherwise.

Social Champ's page contradicts itself (its FAQ recommends 6–11 AM, its table 3–6 AM, and its summary says "millions" of posts), so give it the least weight.

Where the studies agree

With only three studies, agreement is thin. Buffer and Hootsuite both name Monday 9 AM, Wednesday 12 PM and Thursday 9 AM; no hour gets all three.[1][2]

What Buffer and Hootsuite share is the shape: Threads peaks in the morning and around lunch, earlier in the day than Instagram. Both studies keep every weekday peak between 8 AM and 2 PM.

Named by the most studies (2 of 3): Monday 9 AM; Wednesday 12 PM; Thursday 9 AM.

This shows agreement between published studies, not engagement. Each study counts once per hour it names; the windows come from the “What each study found” table. A brighter cell means more studies agree, not that more people are online.

Where they disagree, and why

Evenings. Buffer says evenings (6–11 PM) “consistently underperformed across all days of the week”.[1] Social Champ says the same in its text, then lists 9–10 PM and 7–8 PM among its best slots.[3]

Very early mornings. Social Champ’s table puts the best slots at 2–6 AM, which no other study finds. With no stated metric, date range or time zone, there is no way to tell why.

Time zone. Buffer gives local times. Hootsuite’s table is described as normalised across 118 countries, but the page doesn’t make clear that this covers Threads, and press write-ups have quoted its times in Pacific time.[2] Treat Hootsuite’s Threads times as approximate.

Age of the data. Threads is still young and changing fast. Neither Buffer nor Hootsuite states the period their Threads posts come from.

Day by day

What each study says for each day, in local time.

Your audience is different: find your own golden hour

Every study above averages thousands of accounts. Your followers live in their own time zones and keep their own routines, so treat the windows as a first guess and check your own numbers.

In Threads’s own analytics

  1. Open Insights from your Threads profile (on the web, go to threads.com/insights).[5]
  2. Check Views and Interactions for your recent posts, and Followers for top countries and cities.[5][4]
  3. Threads doesn’t show when your followers are online: its insights and API list views, likes, replies, reposts, quotes, clicks and follower demographics, but no activity-by-hour metric.[4] Use the follower countries to pick the right time zone.
  4. Test: post at the same morning hour for two weeks, then the same evening hour for two weeks, and compare views per post.

If you also use Instagram with the same audience, its Most active times chart is a reasonable hint for Threads. That is our suggestion, not something Meta says.

With Octoque

Octoque’s starting hour for Threads is 09:00 in your audience’s local time.

That follows Buffer’s finding that weekday mornings are Threads’ strongest time and evenings its weakest. It is a starting point: once your own Threads posts have results, your best hour takes over.

Tell Octoque where your audience lives (up to three regions) and that hour follows their clock, not yours. Once you have a few posts, your own results take over from the starting hour. You can always pick a time yourself, post right away, or add the post to your queue. See how golden hour works.

How we put this together

Studies: every published Threads study with a stated sample we could find: Buffer, Hootsuite (inside its all-networks study) and Social Champ. Sprout Social and Later had no Threads study when we checked. Pages read on 14 October 2026.

Counting consensus: each study marks the hours it names as best for each day (a range like “3–4 AM” marks the 3 AM hour). The heatmap counts how many studies mark each hour.

Limits: none of the three states its date range; only Buffer states a metric. Social Champ contradicts itself. None of this is Octoque data.

Questions people ask

What is the best time to post on Threads?

Weekday mornings, around 9–11 AM local time, in the largest study (Buffer, 2.5 million posts). Its top slot is Thursday 9 AM.

What is the best day to post on Threads?

Wednesday in Buffer’s data, followed by Thursday and Tuesday. Saturday is the weakest.

Should I post on Threads at the same time as Instagram?

The studies say no: Instagram’s overlap is afternoons and early evenings, Threads’ is mornings. Octoque lets you schedule each platform at its own time from one post.

Does Threads show when my followers are online?

No. Threads insights show views, interactions and follower locations, ages and genders, but not active hours.

Are evenings bad for Threads?

In Buffer’s data, yes: 6–11 PM underperformed on every day. That is one study, so test it with your own posts.
