Best time to post in India: the study windows in IST

No large published study measures Indian accounts on their own yet, and Octoque has no data of its own to fill the gap. What you can do is use the global studies the right way: they report times in the audience’s local time, so for an Indian audience you read them straight off in IST. This guide does that, converts US and UK audiences to IST, and lists the festival and cricket dates worth planning around.

The short answer
  • Audience in India: use each platform’s study window as IST. Instagram’s overlap is about 3–7 PM IST, Monday to Wednesday; TikTok’s weekday window about 2–6 PM IST; LinkedIn Tuesday to Thursday, late morning.
  • Audience in the US: a 7 PM New York post goes out at 04:30 IST (05:30 from 1 November 2026). Schedule it; don’t stay up.
  • Audience in the UK: 7 PM London is 23:30 IST in summer and 00:30 IST in winter.
  • India doesn’t change its clocks (IST is UTC+5:30), so the gap to the US and UK moves twice a year on their side.[1]

Why there is no India-specific answer yet

The big studies (Buffer, Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Later) pool accounts from many countries and normalise times to each account’s local time.[2][3] None publishes an India-only cut. One site that shows India-specific hours, TimeToPost, labels them “editorial baseline, modelled not counted”: estimates, not measurements.[4] Pages that give “India” times without saying where they come from are usually the global numbers relabelled.

India is big: DataReportal counts 1.03 billion internet users at the end of 2025 and 500 million social media user identities.[6] It is very likely your audience has its own rhythm. Treat everything below as a starting point.

The study windows, read as IST

If most of your followers live in India, the windows on each platform guide apply in IST without conversion. The “most agreed” column is the hours named by the most studies on that guide’s consensus heatmap.

If your audience is in the US or UK: their golden hour in IST

If much of your audience lives abroad, here is Octoque’s starting hour for each platform in the audience’s local time, shown on your IST clock. US clocks go back on 1 November 2026 and UK clocks on 25 October 2026, so both columns matter this month.

The daily rhythm in India: what is actually known

Less than you’d think. The best sourced number we found is old and narrow: a 2017 GfK study of “hyperconnected” smartphone users in nine cities (people on their phones more than four hours a day) found “prime time for them is 9pm to 12 midnight”.[5] TimeToPost’s modelled India baseline also leans to the evening (6:30–9:30 PM IST when we checked).[4]

Both hint that Indian audiences may peak later in the evening than the global studies suggest. That is a reason to test 8–10 PM IST, not proof. We found no recent, measured study of Indian posting times by hour.

Festivals and cricket: dates to plan around

There is no published data on how festivals change the best hour to post in India. Meta’s YouGov survey (1,523 adults, October–November 2022) found that “8 in 10 Diwali shoppers use Meta technologies to watch videos”, so attention is there; it says nothing about time of day.[8] Treat these as dates to schedule ahead for, then check your own results.

Dates from the DoP&T holiday order of 3 July 2025 for central government offices in Delhi; Islamic holidays can move with the moon.[7][9][10] State holidays differ.
  • Festival days: families are together and phones are out for photos. Schedule festival posts the day before so they are live when people wake up, and expect your usual hours to shift.
  • IPL match nights: evening matches compete for the same 7:30–11 PM attention. If your audience follows cricket, test earlier evening slots on match days.

These are considerations, not measured effects.

Ramadan

For audiences who fast, daily routines move around suhoor (before dawn) and iftar (sunset). The only time-of-day data we found is from the Middle East, not India: TikTok said in 2021 that in MENA, publishing and viewing “decreased during the fasting hours but picked up after iftar”.[11] If a large part of your Indian audience observes Ramadan, test posting an hour or two after iftar time in your audience’s city.

Find your own golden hour

  1. Check each platform’s audience report for top cities and active hours: Instagram’s Most active times, TikTok Studio’s Followers tab, YouTube Studio’s “When your viewers are on YouTube”. Each platform guide has the exact steps.
  2. If your top cities are mostly in India, read the reports in IST. If a large share is abroad, set that as your audience region.
  3. In Octoque, add up to three audience regions (India, United States, UK and others). Each post goes out at that region’s starting hour, and once you have a few posts your own results take over.
How we put this together

What this is: guidance, not Octoque data. Octoque has not published audience data of its own. Study windows come from the platform guides on this site (all studies read on 14 October 2026); time conversions use the IANA time-zone database; dates come from official or major news sources listed below.

Limits: no source we found measures Indian accounts by hour with a stated method; the GfK figure is from 2017 and covers heavy users only; India’s 2027 holiday list was not yet available to us.

Questions people ask

What is the best time to post on Instagram in India?

Start with the global study overlap read as IST, about 3–7 PM Monday to Wednesday, and test 8–10 PM IST too: the little India-specific evidence that exists leans later. Check your Most active times chart.

Is there real data for India?

Not from the big studies. None publishes an India-only result, and the India-specific hours we found are labelled as modelled. Octoque doesn’t have its own data yet either.

What time should I post for a US audience from India?

Their evening is your early morning: 7 PM in New York is 04:30 IST until 1 November 2026, then 05:30 IST. Schedule it in advance.

Does India have daylight saving time?

No. IST is UTC+5:30 all year. The US and UK change their clocks, so the gap to them changes by an hour twice a year.

Should I post on Diwali?

If your content fits the day, yes, scheduled the day before. Expect usual hours to shift; there is no study measuring by how much.
