Best time to post on X (Twitter) in 2026: four studies compared

X is the most morning-heavy platform in the studies. Buffer’s 8.7 million posts and Hootsuite both land on 9–11 AM in your audience’s local time, while Sprout Social finds noon to 6 PM and Metricool an evening peak. Here they are side by side, with what explains the split.

By Kumar Gaurav, founder of OctoqueUpdated Facts checked

The short answer
  • Most supported window: weekday mornings, 9–11 AM local time (Buffer and Hootsuite).[1][3]
  • Top slots in the biggest dataset: Tuesday 9 AM, Wednesday 10 AM and Wednesday 9 AM (Buffer).[1]
  • Afternoon alternative: Tuesday to Thursday, 12–6 PM (Sprout).[2]
  • Best days: Tuesday to Thursday in Buffer, Sprout and Metricool; Saturday is weakest in Buffer and Sprout.[1][2][4]

X moves fast, so the hour matters more than on YouTube. Check your own posts by hour before you settle.

What each study found

Every row is a separate published study, read and checked on the date in the byline. Times are the local time of the accounts in each study unless the time-zone column says otherwise.

Where the studies agree

Buffer and Hootsuite agree closely: on every day of the week both name at least one hour between 9 and 11 AM.[1][3] That is the most consistent overlap for any platform on this site. Sprout’s window starts just after, at noon, so late morning into lunchtime sits between the two camps.

Three studies (Buffer, Sprout, Metricool) put Tuesday and Wednesday among the best days.[1][2][4]

Named by the most studies (2 of 4): Monday 10 AM; Tuesday 10 AM; Wednesday 9 AM–11 AM; Thursday 9 AM–11 AM; Friday 9 AM–11 AM; Saturday 9 AM; Sunday 9 AM–11 AM.

This shows agreement between published studies, not engagement. Each study counts once per hour it names; the windows come from the “What each study found” table. A brighter cell means more studies agree, not that more people are online.

Where they disagree, and why

Morning vs afternoon vs evening. Buffer says evenings (6–11 PM) are X’s worst time; Metricool’s best time is 9 PM.[1][4] Sprout’s 12–6 PM sits in between.[2]

  • Metric: Buffer uses engagement rate; Metricool refers to views. A post at 9 PM can reach more people and still get a lower engagement rate.
  • Accounts: Metricool says its data is from professional accounts; Sprout’s from about 30,000 business customers; Buffer’s from its own users.
  • Clarity: Buffer’s page shows both 8.7 million and 1 million as its sample, and Hootsuite’s X numbers come from a cross-network summary.

Friday. Hootsuite includes Friday morning in its best window; Buffer ranks Friday second-weakest.[3][1]

Your audience is different: find your own golden hour

Every study above averages thousands of accounts. Your followers live in their own time zones and keep their own routines, so treat the windows as a first guess and check your own numbers.

In X (Twitter)’s own analytics

  1. Open a post and tap the analytics icon to see its impressions and engagements, or open your account analytics from the menu where your account has it. X has changed who gets account analytics several times; Buffer reports it now needs X Premium.[1]
  2. Export or note impressions per post for the last four weeks and group them by the hour you posted.
  3. We could not find an X report that shows when your followers are online, so the hour-by-hour comparison is the way to find your best time.

With Octoque

Octoque’s starting hour for X (Twitter) is 12:00 in your audience’s local time.

That is noon, between the Buffer and Hootsuite morning window and Sprout’s 12–6 PM. If your followers act like Buffer’s, move X to 9–10 AM; you can set any time for X on a post.

Tell Octoque where your audience lives (up to three regions) and that hour follows their clock, not yours. Once you have a few posts, your own results take over from the starting hour. You can always pick a time yourself, post right away, or add the post to your queue. See how golden hour works.

How we put this together

Studies: Buffer, Sprout Social, Hootsuite (all-networks study) and Metricool, the X studies that state a sample. Later’s X page returned an error. Pages read on 14 October 2026.

Counting consensus: each study marks the hours it names for each day (“9–11 AM” marks 9 AM and 10 AM). The heatmap counts how many studies mark each hour.

Limits: no study gives a formula; only Sprout gives a period; Sprout and Hootsuite pool several networks. We could not read X’s help centre directly, so the analytics steps are kept general. None of this is Octoque data.
